I've got a mini orange tree (about 3 ft tall) with 1 inch sized fruit but it keeps getting covered in black soot. After being in london on a balcony I thaught it was pollution deposits. I have now washed the leaves, fruit and bark and still it goes black (whether in the greenhouse or outside) Does anyone know what causes this and how to avoid it?

I read with interest your problem. I also have a well-established orange tree with the same problem.

I've been told it is caused by a tiny mite that lives in the folage, but nothing more.

Should you find out anything further on the mater, eg. a treatment for it, I'd be much obliged if you could forward it onto me at
[email protected].

Thanks
