normally a scratch coat and float coat of backing plaster, with a skim should suffice.

alternatively dot 'n' dab with plasterboards and skim.
 
Cannot dot n dab as part of the job is an arch . Its smooth brickwork so a good backing coat then a skim should do. Do i need to PVA the brickwork.

if you wet the plasterboard, you can bend it around the arch. You can also get flexible beading if the arch is too round to use bend normal beading to.
