I have just bought an outside light with PIR but it wont switch off. i have connected live neutral and earth as normal. Any ideas?

Some PIRs have a manual override which allows the light to stay on. Check the instructions for how to disable the override. Otherwise try turning off the power for a while and then turning on again. Some lights have a test cycle for a few minutes, so give it time to turn off on its own.

Check the time isn't set to maximum. The PIR will operate when powered up initially as it tests itself. If the time is set to maximum when it is first turned on it will stay on for hours before it times out.
