It will go over an open wood fire, so there will be flame about 1M below. I imagine it looking exactly like Fluorescence's picture.

Could I connect the Bosch oven lamp and housing (I put picture in earlier comments) in this way? I would really appreciate a link to site that sells a suitable heat-resitant cable like the one mentioned for 180C.

If I recall correctly, the flames of a wood fire are around 600°C. I really don't think there is any realistic mileage in what you are proposing.

Is it your wish/hope to have this light on when there is a fire burning, or when there isn't?

I need to light on when the BBQ is on - so that I can what I am cooking.

I know it is possible, because this type of BBQ is popular in Argentina and they usually have lights inside. But I can't tell what type of lights as they are spanish websites...

The light you're looking at won't be suitable even to dangle in the chimney as its designed to penetrate through the wall of the oven. The bulb side will be hot, the part of the light on the other side of the insulated oven wall will be much cooler.

Secondly, anything that's in the airflow is going to get covered in cooking and combustion products.

Can't you have lights shinning in from the outside?

I originally thought it was going inside the recess of a blocked chimney, such as fluorescence has.

I have the same problem but, in the manner that Lower has suggested, I have a couple (to avoid shadows) of spotlights illuminating the area of the BBQ 'from afar'.

I think that bulkhead fittings like that often have Pyrex-type glass, so probably are pretty resistant to heat, but it's the wiring that is the main problem - which enters the fitting from behind and is presumably usually buried in whatever the fitting is attached to. Particularly if any of the cabl;e were even remotely 'exposes, I think you would be very hard-pressed to find any cable that could safely cope with the potential temperatures (and even potential flames) in your proposed application.

At the very very least, I would think the only sort of approach you should even be considering probably should be to use, like fluoresence does, an Extra Low Voltage (e.g. 12V) light, since to have mains-voltage wiring (and fitting) in the situation you're talking about is, at least to my mind, quite frightening!
