Painting a flush door with panel mouldings

Hi,

I need some advice on painting my front door.

It is a wooden flush door with mouldings to create a 4 panel effect. I would like to make the door look as much like a panel door as possible and would like to know if I paint it as if it is a panel door (which will mean going across the grain in places) would it have the desired finish or would i be better to paint it in the standard way?

Any help would be appreciated.
