I recently painted the door and skirting in my bathroom and few weeks down the line the stain from the stain which was already in the door is seeping through. I now know I should have used primer first not undercoat. Now I have a patchy white door. Do I sand it down and use a primer and normal bathroom gloss? If so what type of primer is best?

The stain could be a knot in the wood and the resin is seeping into the surrounding paint.

Unless the skirting and door was bare wood be reassured there was no need to use a primer. Undercoat is sufficient. If the door is patchy it's probably that there was quite a drastic change of colour and one coat wasn't enough.

Lightly sand down the woodwork and then give it another top coat.

just joined this site don,t really know what I,m doing but when painting most types of wood if there are any knots in the wood they should be treated with a knotting solution it dries in about 20 minutes then rub down the treated area with some sandpaper then use primer I always put 2 coats of undercoat on and your final finish will be better don't forget to give each coat of paint a light rub down.
