Painting new doors

Help anyone please.

Just had new doors and frames fitted. Not sure what colour i want to paint them yet or if im gonna just stain them. In the mean time i dont want them to swell so what should i use to seal them that wont react with a stain or gloss that i might use later.

My understanding is wood always swells when painted/stained. Even after when doors have been coated 10 times etc.

I hope these are internal doors.

the wood will take on more water/moisture from the grain ends, so seal these, you can use anything, gloss or just neat PVA. just stop the capilary effect of the wood.
