Painting previously varnished skirting

I am wanting to paint my skirting boards white, but presently they are varnished, are there any special precautions i need to take? can i just paint straight over the varnish? what is the best type and make of paint is best to use?

Apply Zinsser Bin Paint direclty over the varnish.

Then use Oil-Based Satinwood.
