I have two stone columns on the front of my house (pre-1800). They are painted, but now, the paint has began to peel (and I don't mean 'flake' but really peel where you could tear a big strip of it off!) Underneath, it reveals bare stone. The paint layer that is peeling is something slightly similar to rubber mastic-type paint? -but very smooth, flat and slightly chalky in texture. I intend to remove the paint and start from scratch - obviously putting a primer on the stone first, but what sort of paint should I apply -or what sort of paint is this thats already on? - Any ideas? Thanks very much  [/url]

I'd rather see them back bare stone personally, but a masonry paint will do if you want to paint them.
