Does anybody have any tips for getting a good line between the painted wall and the top of the skirting? It's an old house and we've got no gaps but it always ends up looking messy and spoils the rest of the room.
Finish your walls first then cut in the skirtings..use a good quality brush and dont overload it...take your time and work slowly towards the line of the shirting/wall
Door frame are a bit harder..you may wat to finish them first and then cut in your walls to them

There is a slightly time consuming but easy way. If the skirting has a top edge (preferably a small edge) you can paint the emulsion on to it and just over on to the side of the skirting. A dish of warm water and a cloth. Wipe along the skirting with cloth up to the top edge. You will be left with a perfect straight line though your wall emullsion will now cover the top skirting edge. It does work! If it is old victorian skirting with a rounded edge it is still possible to wipe off emullsion to a straight line. Works best if the skirting is glossed and been painted for over a month.
