ive got a pug 407 diesel and in the last 2 years its had 3 sets of heater plugs,
they were lucas so they were not cheap rubbish.
the haynes says to see how long it takes for the dash light and the power to the plugs to go off, this all seems okay 6 secs for dash and 15 secs for plugs after that.
car seems fine apart from that.
anybody got any ideas!
thanks paul :?:

May be worth changing the glow plug relay.
If it's deciding to power the plugs while you're driving for no reason, this will burn them out over time.

It's not cheap, around £50 from GSF iirc

It's normal on most cars for the dash light to go out before the power to the heater plugs is cut.

Paul, you posted this on 22nd Oct. You really need to keep the thread together and post any findings or progress you have made on the original.
You may benefit from having the injector spray patterns checked at a lucas depot. Also, check the engine mounts for any sagging which can cause vibration.Pump timing can be out, causing higher combustion temperatures.
You could just try some Beru glowplugs,it's possible you have had a batch of poor ones.
