plastering on timber

i have a bit of timber in a wall where a stud wall has been created over an old door way , is it possible to plaster over timber?

Are you talking about just skimming over it or is t recessed enough to get a good coat of browning on top?

If you're talking about just skimming then I don't know how it would work but you'd definately need plenty of PVA first.

If it's recessed then PVS it and the surrounding area and whack a bit of bonding or browning over the top, it should be fine.

whenever someone plasters over timber, the timber swells slightly and then shrinks back when dry. this leaves a hollow spot which usually cracks. don't be lazy, cut the wood back or out and cover with plasterboard or e.m.l. and backing plaster and skim.

trouble is cant cut out the wood because of the way its had to be done, may be able to put a sheet of plaster board on top but that would mean putting plasterboard on plaster which shouldnt be a problem, depends how it effects the levels of the wall
