If I had to could I put rockwell around the fitting?
Is the fitting an elbow for a rad?
If so, you can't really avoid setting it in.
If it's a joint in a run, then use a coil of plastic so you avoid joints in plaster.

Would it be advisable to try putting Rockwell around it to try give abit of room?
Not really necessary.
