Ply door liners?

Hi all,

Any reason not to use 18mm (maybe birch) ply for a door liner if not enough width height for standard liner?
Thinking to use router to cut hinges into liner before fitting to save chisels....
Thoughts?

Cut down a door liner or make your own with timber not ply.
