I am going to lay tiles on a suspended wooden floor but I have had different advise on what to lay first. Some say to lay plywood and others say hardboard.
Which is right and what is the diffence?

I am laying ceramic tiles, never thought to say in first post,

I would use plywood, glued and screwed. Leave little gaps between the sheets for expansion.

I have used plywood and hardibacker under tile on a convential floor. The tile and grout with the plywood has cracked in several places. I knew this would happen when I did it and wanted that look. The hardibacker keeps the tiles from moving, thus prevents cracking of the tile or grout.

Hope this helped. Happy tiling! :D

We're sure he's finished by now :D :D :D

So, lesson learned: don't reply to old posts (this one is from aug 2004)
