Did anyone see this on the news? police officer on a motorbike killed a pensioner on a pedestrian crossing, lights on red, speeding, not on an emergency call, and to cap it all off, his body cam was not turned on.... I suggest that anybody else would be in jail.

and all to get the duchess of York to have tea at Buckingham palace. It is disgraceful there was simply no need for the speed.

He was SEG his riding fell well short of the standard. They should have gone for careless driving.

They are exempt from the speed limit and red lights. But he should have seen her and reacted to the red lights. Any other rider who hits a pedestrian in the middle of the road who isn’t speeding even if they are not on a crossing will face careless driving, based on the time to react.

To some extent I agree, but they drive at speed for two reasons - to minimise disruption/delays to other traffic in the area, and an escorted convoy, travelling at speed, is much more difficult a target, than a slow one.

No doubt, the escort would made the convoy obvious, and I suppose they had the blues on. The pensioner likely, saw/heard the crossing go green, assumed it was OK, and so stepped out without even looking. I make a point of making sure vehicles are stopped/stopping, before stepping out.

Blues and twos aren’t used routinely on royal visits when I’ve seen them. As for pedestrian crossing every driver has an absolute duty to be able to stop. They went for a more serious offence and the jury were convinced it would help noone if he went to prison.

Two tier policing, two tier law....
Yes indeed. Rather like that other copper who arrested someone but was then charged with a criminal offence for doing so.
This country is falling apart. The ones in charge, especially some judges, don't seem to know right from wrong.

I just said blues, they customarily on escort duties show the blues, without the two tones. They wouldn't normally stop, or break up such a convoy, for a red light, or a crossing.

OK, but why support the police against the woman, they were clearly careless

I have already explained my thoughts, on the subject.
It’s a difficult one, the police are exempt from speeed limits and red lights but hold to the same standards as an ordinary motorist as regards driving

No excuse to run somebody over and kill them on a crossing. The motorcyclist should have seen someone crossing the road in front of him, if he did see her then he was travelling too fast for him to react which means he wasn't looking in front of him as far as I am concerned. As a motorcyclist myself it is bad riding to be going that speed and to not to be able to see anyone in the road. He also failed to use his whistle which suggests he wasn't paying attention to what he was doing.
