Hello i have a potterton profile 60e

after 5 mins of boiler coming on the boiler
cuts out. i cant press reset until
it cools down.

the flow pipe is very hot to the touch
and return pipe after waterpump is cold

i took off the pipe from pump to see if water
is getting through , about 2 litres of black water comes out the pump.

pressure in pumps seems faint, if i cover
the ingoing pipe to pump after removing it.

i have tried 2 water pumps model 15-50 but
same overheat problem

does somebody have any ideas, thankyou

I have taken of the screw from the 15-50 grundfos pump

and there is something spinning clockwise inside,
so i think the pump is working.

C/H header tank?? is this the red cylinder near my boiler
it seems to connect to the main water tank in the loft

how can i check this header tank and what does it do please.
how can i check water is available to the boiler

thankyou

A pump spinning does not mean it works.

If impellor has broken away from the shaft your pump needs changing

If you have got a red cylinder near your boiler it could be a sealed system, is there a pressure guage near it and if so the pointer should be at 1 - 1.5 bar

Have you got one, or two, of these

or these?

Make sure the pump valves are open. Do they both feel like they're going from open to closed and back and the shaft isn't just spinning? They can jam shut and break off inside.

Is it the same if you put CH and HW on together?

Hello

Yes i have 2 of these things,

One these is on a pipe that goes towards the radiators downstairs.
the 2nd one goes to the Hot water Cylinder,

the first was jammed i managed to unjam this and got the central
heating working , but then it jammed again so now i have it on Manual
so CH is ok now

the second of these enters the Hot water cylinder
and comes out and joins to the return pipe to boiler
this seems jammed to as i cant feel a hot pipe after pipe passes
through it. i have tried switching on the Hw button with the programmer too but still no hot water going through to the hot water cylinder or
getting past this danfoss switch thing

i have 2 questions

1. What do these danfoss things do ???

2. Why is there one of these going to the hot water cylinder
( we switch on the hot water through a mains plug (electricty))

i take it the boiler can heat the hot water too if the central heating pipes
are going through the hot water cylinder.
since we moved into the house we always used electricity
to heat the hot water cylinder.

hope you can help and shed some light.

by the way the the 2 things are called danfoss

thanks
