Hi
Had an Isofast F28E fitted to an existing system 2 years ago and the expansion tank has now failed. As it has cost a bomb to repair - am in 'discussions' with SD but so far no joy. Is this a common problem? The new tank is bigger and the pressure hose (small bore with nasty rt-angled bend in it) to the tank was all gunged up. I have also had to replace the pressure relief valves. The pump wouldn't work initially after the repair but now seems OK

The plumber has put Sentinel in the system - not sure if that was added the first time around - no label on boiler.

Advice (other than rip the thing out and start again) please - thanks

I wouldnt say a common problem as such, but yes it can happen.

Sludge, sludge, sludge. I was covered in the stuff today after a similar incident. Verdict : ur system is corroding, hence the gunge in the exansion vessel/pipework. Probs find ur pump had seized as well but has now freed off.

If the system is not too badly gunged up, the req'd flush and clean chemicals may do the job. Failing that its a major job to clean out (eg a "powerflush" style malarky)

I doubt it

U have answered ur own question  Seriously though, u may be lucky and after a bit of a cleaning of the system/boiler/etc get a decent run out of it...... but id start saving now if i were u.

There really is a lot of problem explaining to people the difference between a boiler which has failed because of manufacturing quality and design and a system which has failed because of dirt and sludge in the system.

I hate Saunier Duval boilers because of their attitude towards installers, premium rate tach advice lines etc.

However this sounds like a typical case of a poor quality installation spoiling the boiler within two years.

Give me the best boiler in the world and I could spoil it within a few months by dirt in the system.

Thanks guys you comments have been very useful - it looks like this has been an expensive lesson - and I fear the costs are not yet over!!!
