    Hi all.
My builder has taken out the back of the house and propped it up as he still hasn't put in the steel yet .
My question is should I be expecting to have bricks falling out of the propped up area and is it normal for this to happen ( Sorry don't know the correct terms)
I have had bricks fall out but my issue is that I have a 3 year old and a dog and I wasn't told not to go into the new extension.

Well after 5 months of him building a 4 x 5m shell, which is still not water tight, and steel still not in I've come to that realisation that he is indeed a moron....
Even after I called him in a rage that bricks fell down he didn't care.... Just told me it's common sense not to go in there and he expects bricks to fall down if they are loose .
So my next question is how long should it be propped up for, or if its propped up properly, does it not matter how long it's like that for.

Me personally I wouldn't make the opening if I didn't have the steel to put in.

    Hi @catlad.
I was just wondering how much overhang a 3m rsj should be sitting on the padstones?

Min of 150 could be more depending on wall/padstones

The absolute minimum amount of time, commensurate with the practicalities of getting the job done.

So the steel is now in but it is sitting on 110 one side and 120 the other. I take it this is not right then. And also where the bricks fell down on the internal side, they haven't put them back so surely the steel is not holding them bricks up?!

It is possible to have a smaller bearing if its lightly loaded but would require justification by SE calcs.

BC are involved and I've asked them to come out to have a look at it now steels in. I've asked builder for the SE certificate and he said he would "find it out".

Building inspector will always want to view after a steel has been put in.
