Hi, after advice on a previous thread about a ballvalve that needed changing, I went out yesterday and changed it. Whilst at the house, I noticved in the same airing cupboard, a pump and it looked in a rather poor condition. Now i'm not a qualified plumber or gas safe, so I am not too sure what this pump is for, why its looking as it does, and if I need to be qualified as a plumber to change this or if I can do it myself.

It looks as if the pump is melting! has anyone seen this before and is this dangerous to the point it needs changing?

It's the circulator (pump) for the CH system. Heed Dan's advice, touch it at your peril, may leak more if fiddled with!

Just keep an eye on the valve, like the other replays don't touch it, if it appears damp then a plumber/Central Heating Engineer will be able to change the valve, the pump itself isn't that old. The white stuff is just a reaction in air as the water dries from the slight leak, it'll actually seal itself up given time :)

If I'd installation at pump I would of rotated the head, the wire should be pointing down so water can enter via the wire. Tho it's nothing for you to be concerned about, I'm just nit picking.
