Putting a doorway under a stairs

HI

I have been asked to put a door in the wall under the stringer on a single flight of stairs in a house,

The wall is brick work, there will only be a foot of brickwork above, is a lintel needed?

i was thinking of using 5x2 as a doorframe instead or would a internal casing be ok?

Why not just take the brickwork out and plasterboard it both sides if it's only 4 courses?
If you chose to leave it in a normal door casing would be ok.
