Hi

Could any one recommend a particular manufacturer of generator to supply power to a domestic home in the event of a power cut.

A manual change over switch is already wired in place within the house electrics.

Thanks.

what capacity are you looking for?

If you want to be able to power everything as if you were on normal mains (ie cooker, kettle, shower, TV, Computers etc) , you are going to need 9-11KVA, with good sine-wave form and regulation, and you are going to be wanting diesel, not petrol

You could do a lot worse than look here:

I think you are talking £1000's here!

My approach would be to determine the 'essential services' you want to supply, eg freezer, fridge, lights etc.

then the 'would be good to have services' eg heating, cooking etc.

and then the 'luxuries' list eg PC, TV, electric shower etc.

What you would put in each list is, of course, up to you.

Then assess the power requirement for each list, and according to how many of the lists you wish to cater for, get an idea of what size generator would meet your needs.
