Can anyone recommend a contractor to supply and fit new guttering, facias, soffit, down pipes etc to my house in the Farnborough (Hants) area? I've had a couple of quotes already varying from £500 to £1000 but i really want it done, cheap by people i can trust not to bodge it!

As Dazb said in the prevoius post,
"Can you not ask friends or family for a recommendation of a good Tradesman because word of mouth is always the best form of advertising"

In South East Essex they are charging £80 per metre !

£80 a metre..........blimey,is that including ALL materials?
Are "THEY" actually getting £80 a metre,or are "THEY" just chancers?

Not really masona as i don't know anyone who has had this done, plus i've never really heard anyone say a good word about any trades men they had experienced. Words more like, con man, coy boy etc etc which is a shame as this is a job i don't want to have to DIY as i don't even own a ladder. I was just hoping someone from my local area may use this forum and be able to either recommend a company or at least warn me off a dodgy one. Bit of a long shot i know :)

Thanks anyways

Your best bet would be to find a local carpenter who can do this and not a pvc company.

Why's that. Thought chippies dealt with wood as opposed to plastic? Surely a qualified carpenter is going to cost more than an unqualified guttering fitter?

Sorry, what I meant was,a self-employed carpenter would not be dearer as a PVC company which have a large overhead, employee's,company vans etc....

Carpenter's not only deal with wood but also plastic now as it needs carpentry tools to work with and plasterboards not made of wood is it :?:,but we do it :!: :)

I used to do pvc plastic but no where near the price of the company as my overhead is smaller. If I was charging the same as a company,I would be retired now.

Best to go by recommendation by friend/neighbour for a carpenter,if not your local building planning department can normally recommend one for you..

Is there not(possibly)a company that specialises only in this type of work then?

Yes, but my own opinion is they can be a bit pricey,my next door neighbour has one side of the house done, soffit, fascia & gutter at 8m run cost £2700 and took 1 day :!: I've done mine back approx 2 years ago, 10m run bearing in mind materials only and no overhead at £265. Need I go on ????????? I not saying they are all at it but as long you are happy with the price.

£2700.00 Oucha

Surely these men cant work in our lovely climate, throughout the long winter/autumn months????????
SO,perhaps thats why they are SOOOoooo expensive when they can/do work!
Ideas/comments,anyone?

Out of curiosity, I invited an Anglian rep to give me a quote for new soffits, fascia and guttering for my semi-detached bungalow (front and side elevations only, as have lean-to conservatory at back). The quote was a laughable £2995!! Needless to say I told him thanks, but no thanks

I'm going to do it myself this summer - any tips or advice?
