Removal of parquet adhesive (not bitumen) from blocks

I've just bought some reclaimed oak block flooring and the blocks look like they had been put down with some kind of adhesive that definitely isn't bitumen - it's very hard & light -coloured. I assume this is proper parquet adhesive. Is there any way other than elbow grease to get this stuff off?
Some of the blocks seem to have been sanded more than others and are different heights when joined together. Will this be a problem later or will I have to sand this irregularity out?

Personally Id put them though a thicknesser on each side. This will remove the adhesive and ensure all the blocks are the same height.

You will need to check tho that the adhesive will not mess the machine up...it might tar up the blades.

Ask your local carpenter if they have a thicknesser or know anyone who does.

Cheers,
Tom
