I am considering buying a house that's great bar the fact it has awful 70s multi-coloured stone cladding to the front. Can this be removed? Or, what are the alternatives?

yes no problem ripping down but whats the brick like behind is my worry , ?
this type of render was put up to hide blown brick fronts , I would ask a surveyor to investigate before you buy ....
an maybe then you can get the cost of repair(getting it properly rendered ..) off price ,

hope this helps :)

thanks for the reply moz.

You are right about the removal problems and worries around state of repair the brick work will be in once it's all chipped away. It seems the general thinking is it may be better to render than remove.

going to have another look at the house today - fingers crossed.

cheers.

for GODs Sake DONT render over cladding ...!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I meant in the post you get a price for removal of cladding then render ...btw no good plasterer/builder would render over cladding anyway ..
if the brick work is shot underneath ....it will be a good key for renderering
