First of all use plastering sand, secondly 6:1 is to weak for a floating coat Go at 5 sand 1cement and 1 hydrated lime. Aereated block will suck the life out of any render so saturate them prior to scratch coating or all the moisture will be drawn from the mortar and when it cures there will be nothing but crumbly powdery sand left that you could brush away with an open hand. Add waterproofer to the scratch so as to slow down the suction when top coating again with added waterproofer, a scud coat of 1.1 sand cement is a very good base key prior to scratch also for use on aereated block again with added waterproofer. Sharp sand!! no disrespect but if you are a novice you will rue the day you attempt to render in washed sand

fair comment legs but if hes after a cheap job thats the cheapest and its not gonna be seen, but for the sake of a couple of quid your way is the correct way.

Cheap or otherwise..........its got to stay on that wall for a good few years though and not fall off after the first hard winter :(

Thanks again guys :D
