I have to renew a flush fitting ceiling rose and when I removed the old one, the red wires were connected to a separate connector block and the 2 black wires both went to the light connection. The new fitting has terminals marked Live, Neutral and loop - which do I connect the two black wires to, and do I leave the red as they are?

See the "For Reference" sticky at the top of the electrics page - all the answers you need are there.

I hope you have an earth wire as well....?

only one earth? should be one for each cable, have another look, if not oh dear.

There's 2 earths twisted round each other and bent back - the black wires are wired directly into the lamp holder, and the red wires are connected to each other through a connector block - there's no back plate for the rose and I'll need to put one on now
