I have a vented gas fired central heating system, the boiler is an Ideal Classic LXFF. It was installed just over 7 years ago and has worked fine ever since.
Should the system be periodically drained and refilled with new inhibitor and if so, how often?

Just bung more in. If it's Sentinel X100, they say 2-3 years, Fernox MB-1 they say 10 years. BUt I wouldn't if it's dirty. I've seen several systems with lots of black slimy stuff going round slowly. I'm wondering it it's cause by inhibitor "inhibiting" ie coating all the suspended iron oxides.
