Hi,

A few years ago I had all the windows in my house replaced with double glazing apart from the kitchen when already had a double glazing window installed. The problem is I think at the time the double glazing company fitting my new windows mistakenly took away my keys for the kitchen window aswell so I can't open them...............................

I wouldn't mind having an operational windown in the kitchen again so can anyway give me advice how I will get them open and replace the locks. Unfortunately there is nothing written on this single window to give me an idea who put it in.

Is there specialist people who could do this for me and does anyone know roughly how much it would cost.

Many Thanks

Russell.

A locksmith will get the window lock open, and provide replacement keys. Phone around for a few quotes, don't pay a callout, don't use a call centre (big full page adverts), and if possible get a fixed price for labour and parts. What area are you in ?.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice, I'm in the Cardiff area. I couldn't believe that last night i just put an electrical screwdriver into the key hole and pushed in a little metal plate and was able to turn the button that the key fits in. The two windows now open fine and I can lock the handle if need be. To be honest I think this key just locks the handle as its a doddle to turn. Why would you want to lock a handle when the same mechanism is in place whether locked or not? When you turn the handle to close the window a few bolts engage into the frame.

All i wanted was to be able to open the windows when cooking etc and I'm happy with it now.

Regards

Russell.

Nice one. The handle locks to prevent opening by either breaking the glass and reaching through, or someone from the inside getting out via the window. The locks are rubbish on the handles, so if you're happy with it just being open - then problem solved.
