replastering a damaged wall

Can someone help! I had to remove my old bathroom tiles as the taps were too close to the wall to tile over. As you've probably guessed a lot of the plaster has come off too. I now have three different depths of plaster' some areas showing brickwork and the rest showing the rough plaster. My problem is that I cant find a plasterer that can do the job within the next couple of months!! Its a fairly big area 2mx2m is it possible to do it myself and how do I go about it. Some of the exposed rough plaster has cracks in it although it doesn't seem ready to come down - should I pull it down?

There is a product called one coat plaster. It will fill to a depth of two inches. Be sure to spray or wet the exposed brickwork immediately before applying the plaster or it will dry too quickly and will crack. Smooth over with a wet paintbrush when filled level. Ready to tile over again within 48 hours. Full instructions for applying the plaster are on the bag.
