Nope.

I am not self employed, I work for what is now a multi national company doing electric motor repairs.
Last year we had to take a 3½% pay cut and no pay rise which effectively cut us about 5½%. On top of that our regular Saturday morning O/T was kicked into touch unless absolutely necessary. My actual hourly rate is £10.86 for 40 hours a week and then every 7th week I get £75 stand-by allowance, (taxable). If I get called out in the night I get a minimum of 4 hours at double time.

Jeeze mate I hope the barstewards make good in the end. Either that or you get yourself fixed up with something better. Having said that, I know money isn't everything and you may well be very happy where you are.

The thing is conny will still have a job when the people who demand more will be out of a job. Have seen a few examples of that recently.

Well we are a small workforce in our branch but most of the time a happy one. The cut was across the whole board, employees, managers and executives alike in every branch. I'm 2 miles from home so can easily walk or cycle there, (weather permitting  ), and often get to do some driving which I enjoy. I'm also able to diversify my skills by doing other trades around the branch such as in house maintenance, yearly equipment inspection etc and am now a H&S rep for the branch so get consulted on ways to improve things.
Other firms in the same line of work are paying more, (not much but a bit), but because it is a specialised trade, (rewinding side anyway), and there is a recession still on there are not many places taking on.
So all in all I'm quite happy but a bit more money wouldn't go amiss.
