Can someone please tell me if it is ok to replace a Towerstat RS with a Drayton combi-stat RTS8. they both have a 3 wire input.

Yes you can, but I thought the combistat was expected to be used as a two wire?

For three wires you connect the old 1 to L, the old 3 to 3, the old 4 to N.
