Seal Gap Between New Hearth & Flooring?

Just had a new fire and hearth fitted and the installers have left a gap beneath the hearth for me to fit the cut laminate flooring edges under.

Do I need to seal the edges of the flooring, or fill the gap between the boards and hearth? It's the dining room, so I'm thinking of spilled drinks, etc.

Thanks.

OP,
Why dont you post a pic showing the new fire, & the whole front of the chimney breast?
IME: its not necessary but the laminate stops at an expansion gap at the hearth.
What you are proposing will make a very clean laminate finish but you must have expansion, & be able to slide the laminate in, and back from under the hearth.
No need to treat the raw edges. The S&C dabs will dry pretty fast.
