Sealing hole

Hi all,

When putting a cable from outside to inside, how do you all seal the hole around the cable? I've seen the top hat shaped plastic plugs and silicone used, what other alternatives are there apart from just silicone around it?

if you want a neat job, then silicone recessed deep and repoint around it in mortar
