I'm planning a single story house extension, the footings of which cross over a 150mm foul water drain (somewhere). I've examined both ends of the run of drain via inspection chambers. Weird thing is the drain out of the first chamber isn't pointing to the second chamber! ie. pipe doesn't seem to run in a straight line between chambers.

Any ideas how I can discover path of drain. I don't want to carefully hand dig all footings with a shovel until I come across pipe.

Also, can I just get regular building regs cover or do I need water board permissions to build over this private drain.

Cheers,

Jimmer

You should be speaking to Building Control for this type of advice. If you can get hold of plans from somewhere, this will help you with the pipe runs. :D

Got in touch with local water board who consulted map of sewers. All sorted.
Cheers.
