Any tips on how to shorten a door by say 1". I usually use the jigsaw first then finish up with the planner. However I've found lately that the jigsaw blade goes off line on the other side of the door cutting off too much.

maybe I should use the circular saw instead.

The reason the jig-saw blade don't line up the other side because you are forcing it,you must let the blade do the cutting very slowly or the blade could be blunt. Also wrong type of blade as well, need a rip blade for cutting along the grain of the wood but very very very sloooowly. The circular saw would be better but slowly again. It is very important to let the blade do the cutting and not you! otherwise the blade will bend.

ps. Mark it with a sanding knife then cut it about 1mm cut below it,then finish off with a plane.
