So you are saying they should spend the rest of their lives being financially supported at the public's cost?

All of us (well most anyway) had to do work in order to live a comfortable life, why should anyone expect to make their way to the UK, not to have to do work and be kept by the rest of the populace?

They should be given a visa with right to remain and work, and encouraged to work.
If any want to learn how to drive a fork lift, the company I work for has a few vacancies!

Yes I was referring to those that do prefer to come to the UK. My comment was in response to someone else's, so I hoped the context was clear.
For sure, those that do not want to come to the UK, which is the vast majority choose not to come.

30 migrants drowned today, who is to blame.
The French government who have been enabling illegal immigation into the UK, should accept the blame.

    How does blaming people help?

Maybe the UK is to blame for a foreign policy that destabilised the middle east, and selling weapons to the governments that are causing the refugee crisis?

UNHCR most recently estimated that, by the end of 2020, for the first time in recorded history, the number of people forcibly displaced is now 82.4 million, and over 26.4 million refugees.10 Oct 2021

What we are seeing is the tip of the iceberg. You can't blame "The French" for a boat sinking in the channel. There are more people currently displaced than in the whole of the UK. People just want to start a new life somewhere.

    You could have a point.
However these unfortunates who have drowned cannot be classified as refugees as they left a safe country in their attempt to enter the UK illegally.

Oh, did France give them a home, residency, work and health care? I didn't realise they had that already.

But in all seriousness, a refugee is defined as somebody who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.

    They are refugees.

The French are responsible for the recent fatalities in the channel

They may have been refugees when they left their home country but when they left France, they left as illegal migrants.
It would be interesting to know how many of these people trafficking gangs are actually being arrested by the French.
The BBC, Sky news, and others seem to have no problem finding and filming these migrants before they set off.
Where the Feck are the French police.

With all the cameras and reporters seeing them off, the French police would have no problems spotting them..

Convenient excuse because UK just happens to be at the end of the line.
