The British Government have approved Chinese plans to build their Embassy on the site of the old Royal Mint, very close to underground fibre optic cables carrying data galore.

Or am I being paranoid?

Seeing as the word 'Embassy' is a poorly disguised word for 'spy central', then one should always worry about foreign nationals gaining territory on your own turf.

It's not like the electricity meter bypass trick, you can't just tap into a fibre optic cable.

If this is built it would be the biggest embassy in Europe.

With redacted information on the plans I don’t think planning should be granted
From what I've read they are waiting for the redacted plans before granting.

Big mistake by the government. I bet there are big backhanders going on!!

Am wondering whether this embassy will be built by UK contractors to UK building regulations?
Or will they be permitted to employ Chinese contractors to Chinese specs.
Apparently the submitted planning application includes basements with no declared reason for their use.
Would UK building reg staff be permitted to oversee every aspect of the build?

Found this article about the new British embassy in Harare, Mace are a Uk based construction business operating in 70 countries, but using lots of local labour. When I worked there in the 90s many Chinese companies were building government projects but with local inspectors monitoring
