A bit of advice required. Currently have an old redring shower fitted and want to change to an 8.5kw shower. There are two consumer units a modern one and an old one (4 Fuses)with fuses that are pulled out like a plug which the shower is currently connected to. The shower has a 32 amp fuse which is not adequate for a 8.5kw shower. Would it be possible to remove this fuse and replace with a 40 amp fuse to allow the new shower. The cable is 6mm but this should allow for an 8.5kw shower. So my main concern is the fuse. Glad of any advice or links with information on this subject

Be careful.
The old rewireable fuseboxes are usually limited to 60A in total so u may overlaod it by adding a 40A load.
Does the instructions for the shower say u must have an RCD, the rewireable fuseboard will not.
What else is connected to your supply, can it cope with the extra load, what is the supply fuse.

Can u post a pic of the fuseboards?

It may be better to either connect onto the more modern board or use a separate shower supply ccu like this: http://cirrus.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/CMP1slash40SH.html

Also remember this is notifiable work or use a registered spark. ;)
