We have come to the end of the house project, axcept for the bathroom. We have no idea what to do here. The bathroom is presentable, with a slightly dated suite, but we can live with it if plumbing will be expensive. Will need to prioritise functionability over presentability, even though the hose may well be sold after this.

The water pressure is fine for filling the bath. The shower hose could barely get water out of it though, so assumed the hose was all furred up inside. Changed the hose, and much improved now, but still will not maintain pressure when elevated to shower height.

The mixer tap is probably 15 years old and original fitting. Although I changed the hose, maythe mixer be furred up inside and blocking things there? The water tank is in the loft above the bathroom.

If it is simply down to poor pressure, will an electric shower offer improvement? What can I expect to pay for fitting of such?

Could be your mixer clogged up. Any strainers in pipework or the mixer? What happens if you take the shower rose off. Does it work then? Did the mixer and shower work ok in the same house and in the same position before? Could pipework be blocked or squashed?

Assuming the shower is gravity fed from the cold water storage cistern, you will not be able to connect an electric shower to the supply pipe. If you install an electric shower it will have to come off the cold water mains - check your dynamic (running) water pressure and flow rate first though to make sure it is adequate. You could maybe install a power shower or booster pump-but it has to be done properly and you may well need to install separte pipes from the cylinder and cold water cistern.
