My Showerforce 8.5 has broken, while it was running it started making a horrible electric-burning type of smell then went bang quite loudly and stopped! I've had a look inside and there is a kind of scorched black mark on the PCB but nothing else noticeable to my inexpert eye...

Does anyone know what could be wrong, and any vague ideas how much an electrician would charge to fix it? it is out of guarantee and the manufacturer's call out charge is £70 + £50 towards parts (refundable).

Thanks

Thanks, just been looking at some fairly reasonable options.

However-

As I am pretty inexperienced with all forms of DIY!, will I need to get an electrician to fit it? Am happy to stick to an 8.5.

If you do not feel confident then get an electrician in to replace it for you.

Normaly replacing a shower should take a couple of hours, providing it is a direct replacement (he says!), but it can often take longer if pipework etc needs moving or if there are unforseen problems.

its not a difficult job. If you stick to the same brand, the water inlet should be in the same place too. You will need some PTFE tape (plumbers tape) if i remember correctly.

And if its the same power, the circuit wont need upgrading, and the part p police wont come knocking, so yes, you CAN do it yourself if you feel confident!
