    Hi,

We have a smelly shower drain (urine) and I think we need some sort of U bend or air lock drain instead of the one we have on it.

the sink which is connected to the same run into the soil pipe is fine and obviously has a u bend.

is there something I can fit instead of what is on there now? I think there are old roots in the soil pipe which may be smelling. They have been removed as much as possible and drain redone outside.

    thanks.

That is a very shallow trap, almost any trap which will fit will be better and you seem to have plenty of depth to fit one. Probably what is happening, is that when the sink drains, it is drawing all the water out of the shower trap due to the slight vacuum.

Could I fashion one out of the flex that’s on there and put a 90 bend on to fix it to the drain as per pic please?

I don't know what others will reply, but I would suggest that if the U is reasonably close the the shower - it should work.

Well I’ve done this. I’ll see if it works by running the shower.

As you can see in the last photo, soap residue can form in the corrugated parts of the flexible connection, which may result in smells.

I’ve undone the flex and inspected it - it doesn’t smell.
