soot removal

Hi, There was a fire caused by cooking in my rental home, and i am looking for the best way to remove the soot from the ceiling and cabinets.
Its there a cleaning product that would easily remove the soot, or could I just use something as simple as dawn to wash down the ceiling and walls?

this is a U.K based forum, any brand names we have you probably havent got over there

but sugar soap is good (if you do have it)
