Spam posts

M

moderator

May I remind you all of This post

In short, If a spam post is made, DO NOT "reply" TO IT

A reply such as "spam mods" is of little use

May i make a suggestion. Sticky "this post" to the top of general chat. Then everyone will be able to read it and it wont drown into a sea of old posts.

Even better make a bar across the top saying "dont reply to any spam posts they will be removed shortly", or make that the title of the sticky.

Problem is, people do not read "sticky posts"

I agree . I dont
When I see the spam/add post, I always select the alert mod, I would thought most of the regulars would do that. THen the mods can act as quick as they like

I've often wondered what happens whent you click on alert moderators. I have visions of sirens and flashing lights in Lynda, Kev and Ruperts houses, and alot of frantic running around.

"Sorry, got to go love, someone just hit the
panicbutton.jpg
button"

 If only I could tell you what really happens.
In my experience it's usually nothing.

IMHO, the sticky topic has to be the best idea for this subject.

This way is better.

A sticky post will stay at the top.

I only make posts like this one as and when required. Some one replied to a spam post earlier today. When the log on they will see the post marked as unread.
A sticky post they may read and forget some time later.

When it comes to PC's I'm thick as pig s##t. So when you say don't reply to a spam what will/could happen if you did. ?

Sorry for being so dumb.

the problem is if a spam post isnt as obvious, ie a post saying 'FREE PORN' is pretty obvious, but if it said 'FREE HAMMER DRILL' but linked to free porn and spyware someone may feel the need to post and warn others not to click the link to save the more vulnarable that may surf on here. that is why a lot of people reply, first reply to say spam, then other replies because people round here just cant help but discus the issue in hand.

Perhaps I should have said "People do not read sticky posts until its too late" i.e. They will make a post, then "notice" the sticky post.

The problem is that "spam" posters go on a "spam poster" list If you post a reply to spam you may get put on that list solely because you replied to spam.

Any thoughts on having to confirm email addresses? Are the email addresses these spammers use genuine or just made up?
