Does anyone know if I can spur a supply for under cabinets lights in a kitchen from a light switch which is near by

no it will not work. see the sticky for refence to see how lights are wired, then you will see why it will not work

OK! will do, thanks for your help could I spur from anything else close by like sockets etc. ie:go from socket to light switch(fused spur) to lights

wrong order

socket (that is on the ring) FCU, Light switch, light.

and obviously you must use the correct sized cable, use green yellow sleaving for earth etc etc, i am also NOT JOKING

Thanks Breezer!

Just a couple more questions, Whats FCU? and do I use 1.5mm cable all the way or just from the light switch.

Also, if you do use a light switch, and it's in the same box, or on the same plate as a switch on a lighting circuit, then you need a visible warning notice to alert people to the fact that more than one circuit needs to be isolated before removing the switch...

Just wondering if you have a Reg or Regs for this?

514.11.1
537.2.1.3

Would be my answer (I have a feeling I know what your argument is going to be, but I'll let you make it it first  )

And I'm wondering why you're wondering that.

The truth is that a similar comment was made in a more recent post. Call me impatient (or just busy) but I searched, came up with this thread's comment and decided to use it to ask the question, which is just as relevant today as it was 3 years ago.

Well maybe you are indeed busy, but it's not very realistic to expect an answer on this, very old, topic.

If you don't know the regulation number for a particular situation, then you'd get better quality replies if you started a new topic to request help from the experts.
