Staircase stringer on board?

I am just installing a new staircase, with a studed partition to one side that has been boarded. Is it ok to attach the stairs stringer on top of the board or do I need to attach it directly to the wood of the partition.(observing fire regs).

Fixing screws go through the plasterboard, so leave it on.
