Looking for advice on using the loft for storage.
I have wanted to convert the loft to a habitable space for sometime but this is going to have to be put off for the foreseeable.
Instead I need to make use of the space for storage.
Currently the joists are 2x3 timbers so I'm planning on gluing and screwing 2x4 C24 along the top of these which I think would be ample for the purpose (depending on board size of course).
Or is there better options?
Which brings me to the next question what board to use. I'm taking the ceiling down so should be able to get 8x4 foot sheets up without to much hassle, I'm not a fan of chip board but happy to listen to all suggestions.
Cheers Poe.

If your ultimate plan is to convert the loft then all of this will need to get ripped out when you do get to converting the loft.

Perhaps but I need to use the space and in order to do that I need to strengthen the joists and board it.

It would only be the boarding to come out as drop hangers would be used between the joists.

Addding new 2x8s would likely cost little more than your suggestion by the time you've faffed about screwing and gluing and would be useable for a proper loft down the line which your proposal would not (though it wouldn't need to be ripped out, just supplemented.)

Why do you want to drop the ceiling? 8x2 t&g flooring chipboard is your best bet

Thanks stevie888,
The ceilings are coming down as they are coated in thick artex which I'm not going to scrape back and also is coming away in places due to some kind of oil based substance split in the loft which has soaked through the plaster board.
Plus the ceilings are bowed so was looking to straighten them up at the same time.
Do you know what span 2x8 beams are suitable for if used for a habitable room in loft conversion. No dorma.
