strange plumbing noises

Hi all,

New house, first week, got some strange plumbing noises.

First off, I seem to get very high pressure, stop tap only open 3/4 turn, any more than that and I get heavy knocking when I turn off the cold tap.

Second, when I turn off the cold tap it sounds as if the pipework is recharging. Hard to explain the sound but its as if the water still flows for a second after the tap is off. It sounds as if its repressurising / recharging the pipework.

There is no aeration as a glass of water is perfectly clear (no cloudiness).

Anyone got any ideas? Its a mains pressure fed kitchen and bathroom with an economy 7 type hot water cyl (the one with the integrated header/refill tank).

The recharging is probably because you stopcock is almost closed.

Sounds as if you have some loose pipework. Clip it or fit a shock arrester on the system.

Tony
