How does one remove the crome cover to get at the washer, without scratching the chrome. I have tried tapping the cover with a little hammer.

The second question is how to hold onto the tap to allow the centre piece nut to be freed without cracking the basin?

Thanks

1. Stilson wrench with pieces of rubber inserted between teeth and chrome tap casing.

2. Stilson wrench, with rubber as above holding projecting outlet of tap, while using basin wrench of one kind or another on nut on underside of sink.
