The photo shows a Kitchen waste water drain. I need to remove the black grill to rod it to clear a blockage. However I can't shift it. There are four holes at the sides. Does that mean it is screwed in?

If yes then surely they would be rusted as its been there for 30 years or more! I would grateful for advice on how to tackle this job.

It should just be tight in the frame, may well 'ping' out with a little persuasion. (Watch your face and eyes though when it does). Might be some plastic pegs locating it, hence the holes, unlikely to be screws in that type I think.

Bear in mind there will be a Trap under the Hopper, if the blockage is in the outgoing pipework, you'll need to access from somewhere else.

crockhamtown, good evening.

All as Hugh above.

You could check for screws with a magnet?

If you cannot unblock the trap / bend below the hopper, try a Power washer wand ?? wear goggles or a preferably a full face mask !!!

If all else fails you could make an Insurance claim under the House Insurance, Underground services clause?

and/or a wet van pushed down there. It looks as if lots of leaf debris may have gone down there.

[EDIT] for the avoidance of any doubt - Wet vac I meant, not a white van ;)
